67 Merrion Road

In 2023 GV8 was engaged by Harry Simpson to assess the daylight sunlight levels associated with a proposed development on Merrion Road. The proposed development related principally to the delivery of six townhouses and associated amenities.

GV8 was engaged at appeal stage to address a concern raised regarding the overshadowing of neighbouring properties. GV8’s approach involved the clear communication of primary test results and the buttressing of defending commentary with secondary analysis. For this project a full spatial daylight autonomy analysis of the affected accommodation was carried out and this showed that the alterations to internal daylighting would be modest in this instance.

Key Services Provided Included:

• Vertical Sky Component (VSC) testing to assess loss of skylight access to neighbouring accommodation.

• Supplementary Spatial Daylight Autonomy (sDA) testing of neighbouring accommodation.

• Annual Probable Sunlight Hours (APSH) testing to assess the loss of sunlight to neighbouring accommodation.

• Sun on Ground (SOG) testing to assess the loss of sunlight to neighbouring recreation spaces.

• Production of supplementary shadow casting imagery.

Permission for this project is currently being considered by An Bord Pleanála.
