In 2012 GV8 (trading as Aurea Consult at the time) was engaged by Bruce Shaw Partnership to assess the daylight sunlight levels associated with a proposed development in at Clanwilliam Place, Dublin 2. The proposed development related principally to the delivery of 6,427 m2 of new office space within seven storey corner building.

Located at one side a tight urban block, one of the key questions raised during this project’s inception was the degree to which adjacent properties would be affected by this new development. Working closely with Shay Cleary Architects on this project GV8 was able to identify a set-backing configuration at upper levels which effectively minimised external impact.

Key Services Provided Included:

• Vertical Sky Component (VSC) testing to assess loss of skylight access to neighbouring accommodation.

• Annual Probable Sunlight Hours (APSH) testing to assess the loss of sunlight to neighbouring accommodation.

• Sun on Ground (SOG) testing to assess the loss of sunlight to neighbouring recreation spaces.

• Production of supplementary shadow casting imagery.

• Average Daylight Factor (ADF) testing of all accommodation within the proposed development

• Sunlight access testing for all units within the proposed development

• Sun on Ground (SOG) testing of all proposed recreation spaces

Having reviewed GV8’s assessment of impact to neighbouring properties the local authority concluded that:

“The full report has been read and it is accepted that the revisions made are considered acceptable.”

Dublin City Council granted permission for this development in November 2012.

The building is currently occupied by Google.
